WATERFALL FLOWING AGAIN!
Posted on Sep 13th, 2011

(Top: The waterfall pump inlet pipe and support barrels have been grounded until repairs were made. Bottom: Running water!)
Like everything else this hot, rainless summer, the waterfall has been dry. That’s going to change … at least for the waterfall. The culprit of the waterfall’s dry spell – a burned-out pump – was repaired and water and started flowing again on September 13.
A stray plastic bag that was sucked up into the pump is the REAL villain. It caused the motor to overheat and fail. Plant debris and algae can also build up. As a remedy, Suburban is installing a screen over the intake pipe of the pump. (The smaller white pipe centered in the three oil barrels in the photo). It should stop the debris from entering the pump. Each night, the pump shuts off, releasing a strong backflow of water, which should blow off any accumulated matter.
We need your help to monitor the waterfall's flow. If you notice a decrease in water flow over the waterfall, or the fountain in Turtle Pond, which can also be affected, please email a board member right away by clicking HERE or from several other contact links on the website. The quicker we catch the problem, the less likely we’ll have to spend about $3,000 to replace the pump.
