SEPTEMBER MASTER BOARD MEETING TOPICS
Posted on Sep 23rd, 2010
- The August water bill showed a usage of almost 2 million gallons, which played havoc with the budget. Our actual year-to-date cost for water is $23,482. The budget allowance is $16,800.
- Lakepoint turf areas were hit hard -- partially by the heat -- and partially because of failed irrigation clocks. Suburban will aereate and seed the dead areas, as well as continue to replace affected plantings on the 13th Street island.
- PIne wilt -- In the last month, Suburban has already removed at least a dozen pines that died from pine wilt. More are dying and will be removed as needed.
- Trees that are removed will be replaced, many of them toward the end of September. A Chinese Pistache along the Autumn Chase wall and a maple on the 13th Street wall are looking bad. If they don't recover next spring, they will be replaced.
- Drooping branches in Bradford pears will be trimmed in an effort to reduce limb breakage.
- North Country Walk island electricity -- Because of the expense to place new conduit from the waterfall to the North Country Walk island, the Board is considering using LED lights on the island's trees at Christmas. LED lights take less wattage to run. Currently, the island has only enough power to run the monument spotlight and the irrigation.
- Waterfall renovation. The waterall will be replanted in the spring. In the meantime, beware! It's going to look very brown soon. In order to wipe out all of the wild vines and weeds, Suburban will spray the area with RoundUp.
