HEAT WAVE TAKES TOLL ON COMMON AREAS
Posted on Aug 11th, 2012
It's hot. It's dry. And, as much as WE feel wilted, the plants, trees and turf in the Lakepoint common areas feel it even more. The Central Street entrance took a particularly hard hit. When the pump in our water well overheated recently, the irrigation was shut down because the pump quit working. It didn't take long for the begonias planted in the Central entrance to wither away. They have been removed, but won't be replaced since it is so near the end of the growing season.
Brown patches of grass don't necessarily mean dead grass. When stressed, grass often goes dormant and just looks dead. Trees and shrubs sometimes drop leaves, but usually recover. Some new plantings in the Woodcrest, Country Walk entrance islands and Gatewood interior islands will probably need to be replaced this fall after the weather cools.
Anybody out there who knows how to perform the rain dance?
