COMMENTS WELCOME ON PROPOSED NEW FISHING POLICY
Posted on Mar 17th, 2017

The Lakepoint HOA Master Board is considering taking action on a proposed new fishing policy for Lakepoint at the next monthly board meeting on Monday, April 10.  That policy is below. The board welcomes your comments on the policy.  You may leave your comments by going clicking on “Comments” directly under the headline of this article. You will be taken to a page where you can see other comments, if any, and a link to “Add comment.” Click on “Add comment” to leave your opinion.

 Lakepoint policy on non-resident fishing
  • Lakepoint lakes are for resident fishing only.
  • If you have given your guest(s) permission to fish in Lakepoint, accompany them, if possible. If you are not able to accompany them, please give their name(s), your name, address and phone number to a board member at www.lakepointliving.com. Click on “Contact us” near the top center of the home page.
  • If you see someone fishing who you believe is not a resident, contact the Lakepoint Master Association at www.lakepointliving.com. Click on “Contact us” near the top center of the home page. A board member will then call Lakepoint’s security company.

We pay dues to maintain our lakes-why implement a policy that allows unaccompanied non-resident “guests” to fish? The proposed policy leaves room for abuse. I have 30 friends who would love to be on the fishing “guest” list. Soon hundreds of “guests” who Board Members are supposed to keep track of will have permission to fishing the lakes we pay to maintain. Not a good idea

Given the 400 character/spaces limit, this comment’s done in parts:
(Part 1/6) Thank you to the LMA Board for the work it does to help our neighborhood be such a lovely and inviting place! Thanks also for using our Lakepoint By-Laws when proposing new rules/policies for our Common Area. New rules and a possible new Fishing Policy were discussed at the October 2016 Annual LMA Members’ Meeting.

(Part 2/6) At the Annual Mtg several people from several different individual neighborhoods gave feedback. The LMA Board confirmed they’d consider this feedback.
Comments by different Owners included (not verbatim):
• What are the issues with non-resident fishing? Have a lot of people complained? What are the complaints? Please share with all Owners.

(Part 3/6) Comments by different Owners included (not verbatim):
• Don’t like non-residents fishing here because they litter & have large, late night teenager parties.
• Any rule considered should have reporting be behavior based. Rather than ask Owners to report a Fisher they don’t know/looks like they don't belong, ask Owners to report Fishers who are littering, climbing on rocks, etc.

(Part 4/6) Comments by Owners included (not verbatim):
• If there’s a Fishing Rule, why is it based on appearance?
• These are our lakes and no one else should get to use them
• No fishing rule is needed at all. Just remind Lakepoint owners of basic courtesies (when fishing) for residents and invited guests
• Maybe residents can have fishing passes to show when fishing

(Part 5/6) Comments by different Owners included (not verbatim):
• Very uncomfortable with the idea of “registering” our guests. A guest (relative from out of town, nanny, etc.) may not want their name registered with a group of people they don’t know.
• Signs placed at the lakes should cut down on most non-resident fishing and alleviate the need for more regulation.

(Part 6/6) Comments by Owners included (not verbatim):
• How appropriate is it to “register” minors? Many families (esp. over the summer) have minor babysitters. Will these families not get to use our Lakes?
Recent comments heard include:
• There’re more than 300 homes in LP. No one should be expected to know everyone who lives here and who doesn’t.
Thanks again for all you do!

I do not support. We need to demand and insist on having home owners accompanying guests. Failing to enforce this basic policy will simply make matters worse and increase the frequency of illegal use of our beautiful lakes. Only home owners can effectively control the access and the use of the grounds. Please let's keep it that way.
