'GOOSE PATROL' LASERS HELP A LITTLE
Posted on Nov 30th, 2011
The migratory geese are here for the winter and, beyond using laser guns to scare them away, there is nothing we can do to make them disappear. Don Hysko (Autumn Chase) pictured left, and Gerald Morton (Gatewood) make a valiant effort every day as they drive slowly through Lakepoint, aiming a laser gun at the geese. Goose repellants sprayed on the grass are expensive and ineffective. Dogs chasing them away may prove dangerous to the dogs, particularly if lakes are frozen. The geese ignore fox decoys and strings of ribbons around lake perimeters. Fireworks, guns and loud "boom" recordings are either unsafe or undesirable.
Until the geese head back north, the board will have the sidewalks cleaned occasionally. Come spring, though, the board always takes an active role to prevent geese from nesting and becoming permanent Lakepoint residents.
